Newsletter 33 -

Best you be dressed 2 the 9s, Prime Minister!

I am as excited (!) as the next person about it but what makes me all a tizzy is thinking of a couple of links for this joyous occasion. There seems to be a 29 theme going on here.....

They're getting married on the 29th of April
Charles and Di got married on the 29th of July '81 which is 29 years and 9 months ago
Catherine Middleton's 2 names contain 9 letters (to help you remember the number 29)
She is 29 years old.
She weighs 2 stone 9 pounds. (stop it)

Brace yourselves for the most tenuous of links......In 29 years time, it will be the bi-centenary (2 & 9 letters) of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's wedding. (1840).

The following one has absolutely zip to do with 29 but who gives a monkey's....

The year 2011 is 20.11 - the date the Queen got married in 1947 which is 64 years ago (64 squares on a Chess Board with the Queen being the most powerful piece) . I just don't care now.

If Betty baby and Phil the Greek hang in there for another 16 years they'll celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary which is no mean feat and merits a most precious item of jewellery to mark the occasion, following Gold (50), Diamond (60) and Platinum (70). So, what did the 'Wedding Anniversary' committee come out with? (you won't believe it).............oak! Maybe their angle is that oak lasts a very long time as has the marriage but that's rubbish, isn't it? 'Congratulations grandma and grandpa, here's a deluxe oak coffin that can fit two people. Happy anniversary!'

Moving on...

The grand 'Gothic style' restructure of Westminster Abbey was commissioned by Henry III..............Westminster Abbey Henry Third: Waht a place to get married!

The four previous Kings called William all had nicknames, of sorts, spelling the acronym 'CROSS' (William IV had two).

William I - William the Conqueror

William II - William Rufus (due to his red face and hair! Rufus means red)

William III - William of Orange (from the Orange House of Holland - hence the orange shirts in sport)

William IV - The Sailor King (joined the navy at 13 ending up being the boss of the whole shooting-match, i.e Lord High Admiral. He was good chums with Nelson)

William IV - Silly Billy (so called as he talked for England, if you know what I mean, and rambled like a good'un, not knowing when to stop. It's where the expression originated)

These bad boys are in the book as are lots of other goodies. (Amazon - Think Of A Link - £5.10)

Are we done on the 'Royal' links? Oh, I think we are.

A couple of random shouts........

On the train, why, for the love of the grizzly fella upstairs, don't people stuff their empty coffee cups all the way down into a half-empty bin rather than having them poking out at the top? Tremendous laziness! Apart from anything else, it's very satisfying trying to make the flap flip back up as loud as possible without it touching you. I've just reread this sentence and have got to get a life, pdq.

Don't you love it that we use Degrees Celsius when it's really cold and Degrees Fahrenheit when it's hot i.e 'Brr! It's zero degrees today' and...'Jeepers, it's 100 degrees out there!'.  We should be consistent and either use '0 and 38' or '32 and 100'. We can't have it both ways but we do!

'Plan ahead'......what's that all about? You can hardly 'plan behind'.

Twitter ye not! (sorry, I've called that one before but I do like it).......For all you recent subscribers, you can find Sir Linkalot linking his proverbials off on Twitter (sirlinkalot).

Your chance to get involved

The site is a meeting-place for linkers & learners alike. So if you have a link for a fact regardless of how 'Cluck from Stop the Pigeon' it is, then whack it over to Sir Linkalot and let's see if the world salutes it. Also, you can request anything to be linked, absolutely anything. Only today, an art teacher asked for links to remember what the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colours are. These have now been linked and she is one happy punter.

Feedback

I would love to get your thoughts and observations on the site, good or bad. This has been a passion of mine since 1995 and it's finally come to fruition which is hugely exciting. However, it's all new territory for me. I would also appreciate your thoughts on the two books if you have parted with some lolly and bought one/both of them - any feedback is good feedback! So any guidance or tips on what does and doesn't work will be warmly received - please let me know by sending an email to Feedback

......and finally

Do let me know if you'd prefer not to contacted in this way and I'll take you off my newsletter circulation list. If that is the case, please accept my apologies.

Let's finish off with some links to keep the wordsmiths among us happy bunnies ...

Atrophy is Wasting away/Deterioration.....A 'trophy' wife just wastes away.

Unction is Smarminess/Crawling.....I can't bear my husband's crawling at these office functions.

An acolyte is a Devoted follower/Attendant.....Is a 'Coleite' a devoted fan of Cheryl Cole?

To be vituperative is to be Scathing/Critical/Abusive .....'Your mouth is so wide you can fit two pair o'teeth in it.'....'Charming!

A baccalaureate is a farewell address......I'd back a Laureate (Poet)-in-the-making to give a superb farewell address.

Alimony is a payment made by one person (usually divorced) for the support of another.......'Ali' money is normally paid after you've gone 15 rounds with someone.

Isn't bunting just the tackiest?

Have a royal weekend.

Regards

Sir Linkalot
