links and counting.

Just call me John the Baptist!

I aint the shabbiest of linkers but all I am doing is paving the way for the man himself. It's a 12 year old boy called Jake who I met on a school trip recently. I was going through the category (below) with the children and told them my link for Edward I being on the throne in 1300. He then put his hand up and came out with this stupendous link which puts mine to shame. 13 is E1 backwards. Even though he didn't say it, being a polite chappie an' all, the expression on his face was one of disdain saying 'I laugh in the face of your lame crow-barred link, Sir Linkalot. You've met your match, you washed-up Knight of the Profound Table!! ' I do a mean baptism but am clearly not worthy. While we're on the subject of knights.....the word Chivalry is not only a splendid word but its meaning is begging to be linked. So, in lieu of my maker, Jaker, I will throw one into the ring. Chivalry is gentlemanly or courteous behaviour: Chivalry timbers! A gentlemanly pirate! Is it in? Oh, I do think so.

Normally, in my school visits I teach the kiddywinks the 10 biggest countries or the 12 Chinese New Years to warm them up before I challenge them to link. But this updated category is just blowing these two categories out of the water. I'm so excited about it that I want to pop. It's the Kings & Queens on the English throne at the turn of each century post 1066 and all that. The children and the pedagogues (another outstanding word) are lapping it up which excites me good and proper. Here it is in all its splendour.....

1100: William II & Henry I.......He wants a Wii (ii also looks like 11)

1200: John.......Tilt your head to the left and you'll see that the H & N of JOHN are the numbers 1 & 2.

1300: Edward I.....13 is E1 backwards (all pay homage to Master Jake)

1400: Henry IV.....the letter H is a 1 and a digital 4 put together.

1500: Henry VII......Rugby 15s & 7s (H are the posts)

1600: Elizabeth I.....E1iza6eth.

1700: William III....Now you're 17 be careful not to speed else the Old Bill give you 3 points.

1800: George III.....By George, I'm 18 and free!!!

1900: Victoria.....V19TORIA

The name of the book is to be 'Thinkalink! It's a fun & easy way to remember things'. I am nagging my publisher like you wouldn't believe to get them to tag on Runny, runny, help.....oops! (for the spelling of Diarrhoea) as it's the children's favourite link by a country mile. If they don't fall for that one then I've suggested....He wants a Wii...as a back-up. Fingers and all sort of other extremities crossed that they go for it.

Just call me John the Baptist!

Your chance to get involved

The site is a meeting-place for linkers & learners alike. So if you have a link for anything, absolutely anything, regardless of how 'what in the name of...???' it is, then submit it and let's see what the punters think. If it's a 'well, slap my thigh and call me Judy' link then it'll go in the book (as will your name).

Feedback

I would love to get your thoughts and observations on the site, good or bad. This has been a passion of mine since 1995 and it's finally come to fruition which is hugely exciting. However, it's all new territory for me. So any guidance or tips on what does and doesn't work will be warmly received - please let me know at andy.salmon@thinkalink.co.uk
