Hating it, hating it, hating it....
.....I can just about okay 'so' in the context 'That is so not true' even though it'll never cross my lips, so it won't. When I'm feeling as right as rain, I may even let 'Enough already' slip through my fingers but only if I like the person who's saying it. (Where on God's earth did the expression 'Right as rain' come from??????? Who cares. It's a belter.). But, I just can't, for the life of me, give the old thumbs up to the ridiculous overuse of the present participle 'loving' on its Jack Jones, with no pronoun in sight......Loving this drink..... Loving Brad in that film.....Loving your dress babe....Loving Davina's hair .....Loving this...Loving that....Loving all sorts of tittity tat.....enough already! Oops. I'm up for change in the English language, moving forward and all that caper. I won't use text speak but I acknowledge it and have used some of this vernacular in a couple of my linkity links. But 'Loving it'???? Nay, nay, thrice nay.
There's one more puppy that has flogged a late steed til Kingdom come......'You know what ?'......I use this one when my answer to someone's question is unexpected...'Do you like S Club 7?'....'You know what?...and off I go confessing all'. A closet S Club fan is a no-no and I hang my head. Wasn't it just wonderful when you could 'come out' and admit to knowing all the words to Thank You For The Music and not get pilloried for it? In my youth, I was a big sporty, macho, heavy rock fan (plus Genesis, sorry) and the last thing my reasonably uncool 'sleeveless cricket jumper' image needed was a hands-up ABBA confession. So I kept schtum (another tremendous word). Having just read that last sentence, maybe being an ABBA fanatic would've improved my image!! The expression, You know what? albeit a goodie in its time has heard the last from me. I'll not be darkening that door in the not too distant. 'Robbie, do you like singing?'....'You know what, I do.'.....'Stevie G, is playing for England a thrill?'....'You know what Motty, it is.' Look out for it guys and gals (?), it's everywhere.
Update
Things are occurring in the land of the link. The book is going swimmingly (another stupendous word). Busy, writing 750 words a day with all the material needing to be ready by the end of Oct. Today, I'm at Merchant Taylors' giving it heaps to the boys in any shape or form they care to mention, Hinckley Johning and Chisinauing to my heart's content. You know there's been a Crimea you horrible little boy, can't you see the Balaclava for goodness sake???? Next week, it's Sherborne for Girls followed by the whole of Putney High (Girls) with a presentation by my goodself at the annual Dyslexia Association jolly in Nottingham, thrown in for good measure. As Bill Lawry would say...It's all happening!' (I make no apologies to the non-cricketers out there for that reference as you're so missing out!). More schools in October with some teachers conferences foolishly taking one step forward. Oh, the joy. To quote Hilda Ogden....The World's my lobster.
I spotted a goodie last week that will appeal to all you Atlas readers. I absolutely love looking at maps, by the way. We all do but some of us sadly won't own up to this tremendous pastime. It's the absolute biz. In fact...'loving Atlas reading, loving it'. (you knew I'd call it somewhere in this newsletter). I digress. (We all love a bit of 'Ronnie Corbett in the chair digression'. There's really no point in denying it). If you look at the initial letters of the East European countries that run from north to south, it spells 'Fell bum'. Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, M oldova. Isn't that just slap-my-thigh yeeeeee haaaaa Eurotrashtic!! What's even nicer is that Latvia and Lithuania are in alphabetical order. Such fun. Acronyms have their place and this is certainly one of 'em.
Your chance to get involved
The site is a meeting-place for linkers & learners alike. So if you have a link for anything, absolutely anything, regardless of how left field the fact is, then submit it and let's see what the campers think. If it's an 'You know what?' link then it'll go in the book (as will your name). I'm drafting the book now so make haste!
Feedback
I would love to get your thoughts and observations on the site, good or bad. This has been a passion of mine since 1995 and it's finally come to fruition which is hugely exciting. However, it's all new territory for me. So any guidance or tips on what does and doesn't work will be warmly received - please let me know at andy.salmon@thinkalink.co.uk

Congratulations to the following 10 linkers for having the highest average score, per link, for August.
The linker in the number 1 spot, come Dec 31st, will be crowned Champion Linker for 2009 and receive a trophy. Bear in mind that this is how you will be known in the book. So it maybe worth changing your user name to your real name & city to prove to your friends that it is actually you!
